Biography

Mike was born and raised in Nutley, New Jersey. Unlike many actors, he didn’t always dream of being one as a child. Instead, acting was something that caught him completely by surprise while attending college at San Diego State University. What started out simply as a curiosity by taking a few acting classes and auditioning, soon blossomed into a life-long passion after he was cast in a few university productions. As a result, he decided to achieve a B.A. in Acting.

As he neared graduation, he was still unsure as to whether or not he wanted to pursue acting professionally but that question was answered in his last semester of college. During his final days at SDSU, he had the unique opportunity to portray “Leonardo” in Frederico Garcia Lorca’s, “Blood Wedding”, in the presence of legendary playwright, Edward Albee. Any doubts about what he wanted to do with his life were soon diminished when he met Mr. Albee afterwards and received positive feedback from him. “Thank you Mr. Albee!!!! That day changed my life forever!”

Although he grew up 15 minutes from New York City, Mike decided to pursue acting professionally in Los Angeles in the beginning of his career. Before heading to LA, he decided to get his first taste of professional experience by spending some time in San Diego doing local theatre, independent films, and some regional commercials. Since then, he has gone back and forth from Los Angeles to New York, depending on where work takes him.

Mike has worked professionally in all areas of the acting community since he graduated. He has held numerous roles in film, television, and theatre. He has also appeared in several National, Foreign, and Regional commercials, as well as in various commercial print ads and music videos.

His complete list of credits can be viewed on his updated resume page, but his personal favorite roles include the following:

Television: Mike was the first actor to portray real life fugitive, Jesse James Hollywood, with his Guest Star spot on Unsolved Mysteries. Jesse James Hollywood was eventually apprehended by authorities and Mike would like to think that in some small way, he helped bring a killer to justice.

Film: Mike played “Joey” in the underground punk-rock hit, That Darn Punk. Written by Joe Escalante, of the legendary punk-rock group “The Vandals”, That Darn Punk has gone on to become a cult classic.

Commercials: Mike has shot a Lancome commercial with Anne Hathaway, a Pepsi commercial with the rock band “Papa Roach”, a Gatorade commercial with Derek Jeter, and an ESPN commercial with Lee Corso and the “ESPN College Gameday” crew.

Theatre: Playing “Austin” in Sam Sheppard’s True West was his most challenging role but getting the chance to perform Off-Broadway in New York as “Phillip” in Key Exchange, was definitely the most fun!

Trivia / Interesting Facts

The film, “Standing Room Only’, starring Hugh Jackman and written and directed by Hugh’s wife, Deborah Lee-Furness, is inspired by true events that Mike and his family had with Hugh and Deborah.

Back in the summer of 1998, Mike and his family met Hugh and Deborah while waiting on line to purchase tickets for the play, “Hughie”, that Al Pacino was starring in that night, at Circle in the Square Theatre in NY. Along with the other people on line, the group became friends for a day and they all went out afterwards for drinks. The characters of Larry, Larry’s father, and Larry’s wife all represent Mike, Mike’s father, and Mike’s mother.

“It really was just one of those great day’s in life where you meet a bunch of strangers and the next thing you know, through common bonds, you become friends for a day. I will never say that my family and Hugh are great friends, because obviously we are not, but we did remain in touch for a good deal of time and my parents went to see him years later and re-united with him backstage in NY when he was performing his show, “The Boy from Oz”. Hugh deserves everything that has happened in his life because he was a genuine, “down to Earth” guy before his fame when we met and has remained one ever since through all of his success….I hope one day that our paths will cross professionally and we can all look back and reminisce about that day.”

That night, Mike had front row seats and Al Pacino literally spit on him during one of his monologues!

Mike went to see “The David Letterman” show one time and he happened to get lucky that night and be one of the studio audience members that the camera kept picking up and that Dave kept referring to and making jokes about. It was a Christmas show that had a giant bowl of eggnog on stage that all the guests and crew kept jumping into as a joke. In between commercial breaks, “The Late Show” producers came over to Mike and asked him if he’d be willing to jump in as well.

“I was all ready to go and make my Late Night debut but right as they were asking me, someone on the crew slipped on the eggnog that had spilled on-stage and hurt himself. They decided not to call us on after that but that sure would have been fun! If I ever meet Dave, well then, I have a good story!”

Mike hopes that someday he has the good fortune to work with Martin Sheen and apologize to him in person for some immature behavior that he displayed towards him years ago as a teenager.

“We were on a field trip for one of my High School English classes and we went to see “The Crucible” on Broadway. Martin Sheen was playing Proctor and during one of his monologues, me and a friend thought it would be funny if we shot candy Skittles on stage at him from our front row balcony seats. I was a bit of a class clown back then and it was years before I ever thought about becoming an actor. He had to have noticed because as he delivered his speech, suddenly there were a few orange, yellow, and red meteors flying down at him from above. If my teacher noticed it and gave me detention, I’m sure he did. Ahhh, the things we do as immature children! Sorry Mr. Sheen!!!

Before Mike had a clue about being an actor, he attended an “open call” for the movie, “Gladiator”, starring Cuba Gooding Jr., when he was a teenager. The local paper had advertised an open call for “athletic teenagers between the ages of 13-18”. Assuming that “athletic” meant being able to play sports well, he made the trip to NYC and stood on line for 5 hours just to realize he was making a fool of himself! On line were muscular, ripped, muscle bound youths and Mike’s 6’, 150 pound, teenage frame was far from “athletic”.

“I don’t know…I could always play any sport well and was a high school athlete, so I assumed that meant “athletic” and clearly Hollywood would be knocking at my door. In the end, the open call was just for extra work but I did get interviewed by the NY Times while standing on-line and made the front page of the Arts section!”

Mike backpacked throughout Europe for five months and lived in Brazil for six months.

He has also driven cross country from LA to NY, three times.

Mike has set foot on the soil of the village that his family name has originated from in Arsita, Italy.

Mike was mistakenly confused for Freddie Prinze Jr. by the production team ,while working on the movie Boys and Girls.

He was Vice President, Secretary, and Rush Chairman of the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity while attending San Diego State University. He also attended the University of Maryland for one year before transferring to SDSU.

“Don’t be one of these people in this world that says “The world owes you something”. The world was here billions of years before you or any life for that matter and it owes you nothing!”

“The way I see it…only two things can happen when you die. You will either die and not remember a thing or you will die and move on to some “other place”. So why do people freak out about death so much in this life?”

“Life is what you leave behind and the memories you make; a bunch of beautiful moments, that if you are lucky, are strung together to create a beautiful whole. Leave things a little bit better than you found them and you will create a legacy.”
